Allergy Solutions
We supply allergen immunotherapy and allergy diagnostics to South African clinicians, and we run a specialist allergy practice in Cape Town. The two sides inform each other: what we stock is what we would prescribe.
Led by Dr Sarah Karabus
Dr Karabus practises from Suite 1610 at Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital in the Cape Town Foreshore, treating children and adults with allergic rhinitis, asthma, eczema, food allergy, drug allergy and venom allergy. Allergy Solutions grew out of that practice, from the recurring problem of patients who needed immunotherapy that was difficult to obtain in South Africa.
How we are regulated
Allergen extracts and immunotherapy products sit in a tightly controlled part of South African medicines law. Most of what we handle reaches patients through one of two routes:
Registered medicines
Products with SAHPRA registration, imported and distributed under the applicable licences, with full pharmacovigilance reporting.
Section 21 named-patient supply
Unregistered products authorised by SAHPRA for a specific patient, on application by the treating practitioner. We prepare the supporting documentation and manage the import.
Everything travels under validated cold chain, with temperature records available on request. Adverse events are reported to SAHPRA and to the manufacturer.
What we stand behind
We only carry products with a published evidence base and a manufacturer who will answer clinical questions. Where the evidence is thin, we say so — on this site and in the room.
